Tips and Tricks for Cloth Diapering Multiples

As seasoned cloth diapering parents, we've gathered a few tips and tricks to help you navigate this journey with ease:

  1. Double, Double, Toil, and Trouble: Stock up on cloth diapers. With twins or siblings, you'll want to ensure you have enough diapers to give yourself time to get them re stuffed and ready to use again.

  1. Prepping is Key: Prepping your cloth diapers before your little ones arrive is key to a smooth transition. Follow our prepping instructions to unleash the full potential of your diapers.

  1. Spellbinding Storage: Organize your cloth diaper stash with precision. Whether you opt for baskets, shelves, or a rolling cart make sure your diapers are easily accessible for quick and handy use.

  1. Magical Maintenance: Keep your cloth diapers in tip top shape. Our cloth diaper care guide will guide you through the enchanted process, ensuring your diapers stay clean and absorbent for all your little wizards' adventures.

  1. Breaks are Okay: When you feel overwhelmed, and at times it will happen, it is okay to take a break and use disposable diapers. They can give you the refresher you need to get back into cloth. If a break makes it more sustainable for you, go ahead! If you needed permission consider it granted. Cloth diapering does not need to be all or nothing.

  1. Feeling Backed Up: Laundry can be a daunting task with twins and siblings needing lots of attention. There is the option to stuff as you go, rather than stuffing your diapers all at once. It can be a nice change of pace! As long as your inserts don't have microfiber against the skin, you don't actually have to stuff your pocket diapers.

Can Siblings Share a Stash?

It is totally fine for babies to wear a diaper that their sibling has worn, they don't need a dedicated stash of their own. The wash machine really does make them good as new!

Nova on both babies.

How Many Cloth Diapers Will I Need to Diaper Multiple Babies?

For full time, it's recommend to multiply the days you want to go between washes by the amount of diaper changes per day. A newborn needs more changes than a nearly potty trained toddler. Personally, 30+ diapers per baby is a comfortable number for me. 70 feels like an abundant and very sufficient amount, but you can use a smaller stash if you're quick to move your load from the washer to the dryer. Another thing to consider with multiples and washing is that your washer might not have a capacity to accommodate 50 cloth diapers at once. This means that if you go a while between washes you will have several loads. It also means you might need less cloth diapers! If your washer only holds 25 diapers, and you have 8 to use while those are in the washer and dryer you don't actually need more than those 33 diapers.
